As any music head will know it's not just the big shows that create substance in any vibrant music scene, and the launch of Dub Theories is no exception. Hosted by dub wise producing partners Everest P & Tyun, alongside graphic artists/selector/producer Dan Covill, more widely known together as Evermoor Sound, this night's aim is to showcase some of the exciting musical talent emerging from a healthy dub scene.
Just across the water from the UK, over looking the sea, lies the the northern-French town of Dunkerque (or Dunkirk to us English). Here the roots and dub flag is flying healthy and strong thanks to the dedicated work of Association Leçons d'ailleurs & the Roots Wokers Sound System.
Originally founded in Bordeaux, South-western France in 2010, Roots Workers Sound System moved to Dunkerque in 2012, after a productive 2 years playing shows alongside some of the greatest roots teachers France has to offer, the likes of Jah Militant, Jah Marshall, Chalice Sound and Salomon Heritage and at the same evolving their system from two to four scoops.
Since their arrival in Dunkerque last summer the sound has grown further to encompass a proper 4-way configuration and the crew have given birth to the Dub-Kerque sessions, the first of which saw them join with thier close friends and neighbours, Chalice Sound from Lille. On 4th May Dubkasm look forward to joining them for the second installment of Dub-Kerque and testing out their dubplates on this sound system for the first time.
As spoken by the crew themselves, The main purpose of the sound has always been to work on the foundations through Peace, Love and Respect, and work unity straight from it's Root. Make sure your heart is clean, and you rally round the Red, Gold and Green.
Big ups and love to all the Dubkerque family!! This is going to be one to remember...
